Iolani Lower School, Student Artists

The Iolani Lower School Visual Arts program is built on the belief that everyone has a unique way of seeing, thinking and feeling. Celebrations was the name for a special exhibit showcasing more than 300 original works of art, in a variety of mediums, by Lower School artists.
Color and self-expression came to life in each creation on exhibit. In each case, the students were given an assignment with an emphasis on exploring different artistic techniques. Kindergarteners studied and later created Hawaiian-themed art on display. They also designed a collection of festive party hat pictures and vibrant rainbows.
First-graders learned about the artist Vincent van Gogh and experimented with oil pastels. Second grade students worked with a visiting art teacher to experiment with wool and felting techniques. Third grade artists designed full body cutouts. Fourth & fifth-graders created large composition drawings using oil pastel or mixed media around the theme of "celebrating with family or friends.” After-school art students created watercolor pencil drawings of the flowers around the art building. |

The ceramics class created "Man's Best Friend" dogs in clay using the pinch-pot method for the sculpture and fashioned fanciful "May Day baskets."
What a fun exhibit! We remain inspired and delighted by the students' wonderful works of art! |
