Studies using the same laser technology used at the Laser Eye Center of Hawaii recently helped convince NASA and all branches of the U.S. military to approve LASIK for their servicemen and women. These approvals came after more than a decade of clinical research by military eye doctors. That’s almost as long as the Center has been performing laser vision correction procedures in Hawaii. 2008 marks the Center’s 12th anniversary.

In a change of hats, Dr. Tyrie Lee Jenkins got to experience first-hand what it’s like to become a LASIK surgery patient. Dr. Carlos Omphroy performed the procedure at the Laser Eye Center of Hawaii. Dr. Omphroy became one of a select few Hawaii refractive surgeons to perform the procedure on another refractive surgeon.
