"I just wanted to express my appreciation for the Center NOT performing a procedure on me. I went through the Center's screening process and was found unsuitable for LASIK. The Center probably could have easily performed the procedure with my consent and profited, but it didn't. The Center spent its time and staff resources to do the screening but didn't try to recoup its investment even though I was found unsuitable. Thank you for being scrupulous. I know some other doctors may not have been so ethical.”

"I am very conservative and was very anxious about getting laser eye surgery. In general I do not believe in elective surgery or procedures. Some members of my family had very strong views against me having surgery, which also made it harder. I had complete trust in Dr. Jenkins and she was incredible through every step of the process. It took me over six years of talking to Dr. Jenkins to get up the courage and confidence to do it.

The staff at the Laser Eye Center of Hawaii and the environment was very relaxing and professional. I was made immediately to feel welcome, which is important when nerves are high.

The impetus of the surgery was to help with my sailboat racing as I was dependent on prescription sunglasses and would be completely uncompetitive if they broke or if I misplaced them. If it was raining, or getting dark throughout a race, I had to keep my prescription sunglasses on so I could see. I did not trust contact lenses due to the extreme amount of spray we get in the face while racing.

My vision is now 20/10 after the surgery and I feel like the bionic woman! I had incredible results and had better than perfect vision immediately after surgery. I am very happy that I had the surgery. It has helped my sailing greatly as I feel I can better distinguish the colors on the water, which is important in reading the wind. In addition, I can see perfectly from great distances, which is a big help as well.

The surgery had many other benefits. I have been wearing glasses for over twelve years and it is nice not to have to worry about them when I get up and go in the morning. My son is a year old and was always trying to grab my glasses off my face. I see better than I did with my glasses and I find a lot more beauty in my surroundings, which brings me a lot of joy. When I go on walks or just look out the window, I feel like I can see the details of each leaf on every tree and have a greater appreciation for the gorgeous landscapes in Hawaii.

I laugh myself to sleep all the time as I still unconsciously reach to take off my glasses out of years of habit.
